BOC-3

What is boc-3? Form BOC-3 designates a process agent in every state where a carrier operates, so legal documents can be served on the carrier in that state.

Full definition

BOC-3 is a one-time filing carriers complete to obtain or keep MC authority. Process agent companies typically charge $20-$50 to file and serve as the agent across all 50 states.

Without an active BOC-3 on file with the FMCSA, MC authority cannot be granted or maintained. The filing remains valid as long as the designated agent stays current.

Most authority service providers bundle BOC-3 into their startup packages alongside USDOT, MC, UCR, and IFTA registration.
